Shape I’m In
If this old world keeps messin’ with me
I’m gonna move out into the trees.
Cause’ packin’ up and leaving ain’t nothing you see
I’s a been ramblin since I was a wee little thing.
Because I’m tired,
I’m broke,
and worn thin,
that’s the shape I’m in.
Maybe I’ll sit out by the tracks
hop up on a train gonna take me back again.
I’ll look out at the sun settin’ in the sky
watch it fall down back into the night.
Because I’m tired,
I’m broke,
and worn thin,
that’s the shape I’m in.
Pick up the pieces put them back again
no sense to keep going in the shape I’m in.
Sometimes the easy way’s harder in the end
the time you waste now you ain’t getting again.
Because I’m tired,
I’m broke,
and worn thin,
that’s the shape I’m in.
If this ole world keeps messin’ with me
then I’m gonna move out into the trees.
Blueberry Man
Up on top of a flatbed trailer,
I’m the blueberry man.
I stay on the side roads,
where the police don’t go,
makin’ money to buy my gin.
I smoke on a good pipe,
and dream of my wife,
gave her last breath to our boy.
I raised him up right,
he fought the good fight.
Took a bullet for uncle Sam.
They keep telling me, but I disagree,
that my old ways have come and gone.
So for the time being,
I’ll sit here dreaming dreams,
and be the blueberry man.
“What’s your philosophy?”,
the young ones ask me,
well I just smile and take a sip.
I figure that’s enough,
cause’ it don’t really matter much,
to an old man with a pipe on a flatbed.
I went and voted once,
for my dog but she never won,
it seemed redundant, at least to me.
I guess I’ll try again,
when they put someone in,
that speaks the truth instead of shit.
They keep telling me, but I disagree, t
hat my old ways have come and gone.
But this much is true,
them berries sure are blue,
and they ain’t changed one single bit.
So for the time being,
I’ll sit here dreaming dreams.
and be the blueberry man.
I’m the blueberry man.
Strangers Eyes
Pay no mind I’m just a dreamer
mostly drifting with the wind.
Putting stock into the notion
happy’s how I wanna live.
Takin’ their ridicule in stride
just be yourself man toe the line.
Long overdue that I stop tryin’
seein’ myself through strangers eyes.
If you’re keen on waisting your days
saving doubts up in your mind.
Banking them two cent opinions
just gonna leave you high and dry.
For what it’s worth you’re doing fine
just be yourself and walk the line.
Long overdue that you stop tryin’
seein’ yourself through strangers eyes.
For what it’s worth you’re doing fine
just be yourself and walk the line.
Long overdue that you stop tryin’
seein’ yourself through strangers eyes.
Pay no mind I’m just a dreamer
mostly drifting with the wind.
Putting stock into the notion
happy’s how I wanna live.
Coming Home
I’m coming home.
Twelve hundred miles.
See me coming.
Black smoke in the sky.
I’ve been away, way to long.
I’m a forgetting, her lovin’ arms.
Hey ticket lady please ma’am
help this lonesome son.
I need a one way heading south,
the two sixty one.
See I got this letter here just yesterday.
Sayin’, “child come back home please make haste”.
It’s been a while.
A long old while.
Since I remember, her loving smile.
It went away.
Those years ago.
When she was left with, not much to hold.
Now these hours passing feels like slow rain.
Oh washing down all over this damn train.
How I’m wanting one more time next to you.
Hear you whispering, “oh my child, mama loves you”.
I’m going home.
Twelve hundred miles.
See me going.
Black smoke in the sky.
She passed away, way to soon.
I never got to tell her….
Where We Belong
All this emptiness that I’m feeling.
Can’t believe in, if I do, will pull me
further away from you.
All this sadness in the present.
Does it belong? What brought it on so hard?
Can we chase it away?
Can we go back to the place nothing mattered
nothing got in our way?
Where our fences and defenses were down.
Running free so free like the wind
blowing down all them mountains of sin.
That we created now abated and gone.
We’re right where we belong.
I’ve been sensing you’ve been restless.
Trying to find that peace of mind you pushed back
so far without a trace, keeping it safe.
Why we hiding? What’s inside when we both know
that we hold the key to everything, to everything!
Can we go back to the place nothing mattered
nothing got in our way?
Where our fences and defenses were down.
Running free so free like the wind
blowing down all them mountains of sin.
That we created now abated and gone.
We’re right where we belong.
Can we go back to the place nothing mattered
nothing got in our way?
Where our fences and defenses were down.
Running free so free like the wind
blowing down all them mountains of sin.
That we created now abated and gone.
We’re right where we belong.
Right where we belong.
Hard To Dance (With The Devil On Your Back)
It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
burning holes in the floor with that unholy two step
best get yourself a preacher or a frozen knapsack
cause’ it sure ain’t easy dancin’ with the devil on your back.
Betty Lou was the prettiest in school and I’ll tell ya that girl knew how to dance.
But with my two left feet and being slightly off beat
for me and Betty there wasn’t gonna be a chance.
Then I started pondering just like ole’ Robert Johnson
to them crossroads I’d go and strike a deal.
I’d ask ole’ Lucifer make me dance like Fred Astaire
and in return this here soul you can steal!
But it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
burning holes in the floor with that unholy two step
best get yourself a preacher or a frozen knapsack
cause’ it sure ain’t easy dancin’ with the devil on your back.
Well boys, you know what happened next? I’m gonna tell ya.
My legs they started tinglin’, my change it was a jinglin’,
my hips they were a movin’, my feet they were a groovin’.
Oh Lord, I think I could dance. Betty Lou come on over here girl.
We jumped onto the dance floor and pop!
My ankle, I think I broke my ankle,
oh Betty Lou where you going? Come on girl, I’ll be ok,
no come on!
Well the devil grinned and said, “my boy that’s called the sinners
spin and you just danced it better than any sinner than ever sinned,
I think that you’ll be smokin’ hot on my fiery dance floor,
so limp yourself on over because I think it’s time we go!”
It’s hard to dance with the devil on your back
burning holes in the floor with that unholy two step
best get yourself a preacher or a frozen knapsack
cause’ it sure ain’t easy dancin’ with the devil on your back.
Give Your Love For Christmas
Sittin’ with his head in his hand he asks her a question,
“how we gonna make this happen for the kids?”.
Being out of work has got me in dark places.
How’d Christmas come around again so quick again?
She just smiles and says not a word to him.
Takes his hands all worn and split from the cold.
Looks in his eyes they’re filled with desperation.
Whispers it ain’t all bout’ silver and gold.
It’s about showin’, about them knowin’,
their daddy’s with them here.
It’s about a feelin’, about them seein’,
how their mama holds him dear.
Cause’ toys and treats all wrapped up neat.
All will come to pass.
It’s giving your love at Christmas, that’s the gift that’s gonna last.
He gets up and gets to what needs gettin’ at.
Clears the sawdust off his bench and from his tools.
Sets his hands to workin’, he’s determined.
Old Santa’s comin’ round’ again this year.
He’s gonna show them, let them know that,
their daddy’s with them here.
They’re gonna get a feeling, sure gonna see it.
That he holds them all so dear.
Cause’ toys and treats all wrapped up neat, made with care and love.
And it’s gonna be a joyful Christmas, a joyful Christmas for everyone.
Oh and you might be feeling helpess and confused.
Just let the peace and joy of the season into you.
Gotta show them, let them know that, it’s the happiest time of year.
Give them the feeling, let them see that, tis’ the season filled with cheer.
Cause’ toys and treats all wrapped up neat,
could never take the place of love.
Gotta show them, let them know that, it’s the happiest time of year.
They’re gonna get a feeling, sure gonna feel it,
tis’ the season filled with cheer.
Cause’ toys and treats all wrapped up neat,
could never take the place of love.
It’s giving yourself at Christmas,
makes it joyful for everyone.
Merry Christmas to everyone.
